Big Tech and Governance ~ Sagittarius/Gemini Eclipses

Eclipses in Gemini and Sagittarius. The fun of astrology is it acts like a clock and indicates themes that will come into focus on a global scale. Big tech hearings continue today in the Senate as government is seeking to understand how to legislate social media content. President Trump signed an Executive Order just as this new series of Eclipses began last Summer regarding online censorship.

Social media is a different animal and this theme continues with the Senate Hearings this week a number of issues from surveillance, disinformation campaigns, to hate speech/inciting violence and corporate monopolies are being discussed. Very Pluto (power, control, rage) Jupiter (publishing and laws) conjunction.

Traditional publishing - if you put something in a book and something is untrue you can sue that publisher (Sagittarius). Facebook, YouTube and Twitter can't be sued for publishing the content as they contend they are simply providing a platform (Gemini). In other words you can't sue the bookstore that distributes a book but you can sue the publisher of that book.

There is no legal definition of "hate speech" under U.S. law, just as there is no legal definition for evil ideas, rudeness, unpatriotic speech, or any other kind of speech that people might condemn. Generally, however, hate speech is any form of expression through which speakers intend to vilify, humiliate, or incite hatred against a group or a class of persons on the basis of race, religion, skin color sexual identity, gender identity, ethnicity, disability, or national origin.

18 U.S. Code § 373. INCITING VIOLENCE Solicitation to commit a crime of violence - addresses- "Whoever, with intent that another person engage in conduct constituting a felony that has as an element the use, attempted use, or threatened use of physical force against property or against the person of another in violation of the laws of the United States, and under circumstances strongly corroborative of that intent, solicits, commands, induces, or otherwise endeavors to persuade such other person to engage in such conduct

Interesting times as Social Media is a creature unlike any other and from an academic viewpoint it's extremely interesting to ponder what these next steps will be ~
